Int’l visitors to Viet Nam surpass 6,7 million arrivals in first 5 months

(TITC) - According to the General Statistics Office, international visitors to Viet Nam in May 2018 estimated over 1.16 million arrivals, up 19.4% over the same period last year.

Of which, tourists travelling by sea were 15,562 arrivals, seeing a strong growth of 159.5%; by road: 196,689 arrivals (+64.8%); and by air: 948,863 arrivals (+12.0%).

In the first five months of 2018, there were more than 6.7 million international arrivals to Viet Nam, increasing 27.6% over the same period of 2017. Of the total, the Northeast Asia markets saw a surge in tourist arrivals including the Republic of Korea (over 1.4 million arrivals, up 62.1%); China (over 2.1 million arrivals, up 37%); Taiwan (over 283 thousand arrivals, up 14.5%); while Japan was about 334 thousand arrivals, up 6.6%.  

The European markets also recorded a positive growth such as Italy (+18.3%), Denmark (+18.1%), Sweden (+16.4%), France (+13.1%), Russia (+9.2%). The number of tourists from Africa rose by 20.9%. Meanwhile those from American and Oceania markets went up 13.8% and 12.1%, respectively.

In this period, the number of domestic trippers estimated 36.2 million. Total tourism receipt reached VND260,200 billion, representing an increase of 22.6% over the same period of 2017.
