Nearly 1,000 travellers aboard the Celebrity Century cruise ship participated in a royal banquet in Hue Citadel’s Can Chanh Palace in the Dai Noi (Royal Palace) on March 12.
Co-hosted by the Hue Monuments Conservation Centre and Saigontourist, the event aimed to popularise the royal banquet programme, a new tourism product exclusive to Hue Festival events.
The programme began at the Ngo Mon (Noon Gate) and progressed to the Can Chanh Palace where a number of art programmes and traditional royal games were re-enacted.
The palace, built in 1804 during the reign of King Gia Long, served as a venue for the King to host important ceremonies and festivities and where he convened his court and received foreign dignitaries. It was the Forbidden Citadel's largest and most beautiful palace before it collapsed in 1947.
In 2015, Thua Thien- Hue looks to attract 60,000 cruise travellers through the Chan May port.
The port has already received eight ships this month.
The province plans to continue cooperating with the Royal Caribbean company to improve the capacity of the port’s pier No 1 to accommodate large cruise boats, including “Oasis of the Sea” which is scheduled to anchor in May 2015.
