This festival is held yearly to celebrate Saint Gióng, a great hero and one of the fiercest warriors in Vietnam. The festival is celebrated in Soc Son district in Northern Vietnam on the very site that Saint Gióng was said to have ascended to heaven. Before the festival begins, villagers conduct a special ritual at Soc Temple to clean and cleanse the Saint Gióng statue. On the day of the festival, processions of bamboo flowers are offered to the saint. A large enactment takes place at Phu Dong temple and involves hundreds of participants performing the legendary battles of Saint Gióng.
