Co To island in the northern province of Quang Ninh greeted about 170,000 tourist arrivals from the start of the year, a year-on-year rise of 70%, grossing a turnover of more than VND250 billion.
The tourism growth helped to create jobs for about 1,000 direct workers and 1,500 indirect workers in the island, contributing to socio-economic development, reducing poverty and improving the lives of people.
In 2016, Co To sets target to welcome 200,000 tourist arrivals and achieve a turnover of VND350 billion, creating jobs for 1,000 direct workers and 2,000 indirect workers. The tourism and service sector are to be developed into the island’s main source of GDP.
Over the past ten months, Quang Ninh received over 6.96 million tourist arrivals, up 6% over a year earlier, of which foreign arrivals were over 2.16 million, up 5%, reported the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism. Total tourism turnover reached an estimated VND5.32 trillion, a year-on-year increase of 25%.
In the rest of the year, the Department will continue to carry out cooperative programs with other localities in the country to build tours, routes and tourism products and coordinate with travel agencies to survey and build mining tour “A day being a miner”.
