International tourists to Viet Nam in February increase 20%

(TITC) – According to the General Statistics Office, Viet Nam welcomed approximately 833,598 international tourist arrivals in February 2016, increasing 3.5% over previous month and 20% compared to the same period last year.

Of which, visitors to Viet Nam by air estimated 667,321 arrivals, accounting for 80.1%, up 11.2% over the same period of 2015; by sea: 11,759 and by road: 154,518, increasing 56.7% and 76.9%, respectively.

The total number of international tourists to Viet Nam in the first two months reached 1,638,670 arrivals, up 16% over the same period last year.

Most of source markets recorded positive growth in comparison with the same period of 2015, of which a series of markets climbed sharply such as: Hong Kong (+169.9%), China (+48.8%), the Republic of Korea (+31%), Italy (+25.6%), Thailand (+24.3%), Taiwan (+23.8%), Malaysia (+19.7%), England (+19.6%), Philippines (+18.2%); Spain (+17.1%), Sweden (+16.4%); Germany (+14.4%), USA (+13.6); Denmark (+13.5%); Holland (+11.2%); Japan (+11.1%); Singapore (+10.6%) and Canada (+10.4%). Some markets dropped including Cambodia (-64%); New Zealand (-2.6%); Laos (-1.7%) and Finland (-0.9%).

In the first two months, the number of domestic trippers estimated 14.2 million which included 6.8 million overnight guests; total tourism receipts reached VND 80,680 billion, up 19% over the same period last year.
