(TITC) - In order to raise awareness about the role and significance of the tourism development planning, on 1 August 2016, in Sa Pa, Lao Cai Province, Environmentally and Social Responsible Tourism Capacity Development Programme funded by the Europe Union (EU – ESRT Project) in collaboration with Lao Cai Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism organized the opening ceremony of training course on the implementation of the tourism development master planning.
Overview of the tranining course
The opening ceremony had the attendances of Ms. Mary McKeon – Consultant Team Leader of EU-ESRT Project; Mr. Nguyen Dinh Dung – Deputy Director of Lao Cai Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism; Lecture Peter Semon; and trainees from Viet Nam National Administration of Tourism, Departments of Culture, Sports and Tourism and Tourism Departments of the provinces/cites from Thua – Thien Hue northward.
Speaking to open the course, Ms. Mary McKeon shared, in the context of comprehensive integration with the region and the world, besides many advantages, Viet Nam tourism still faces a lot of difficulties and challenges. Therefore, the setting and implementation of the tourism development master planning is an extremely urgent work. The training course will provide the basic skills and knowledge to implement tourism development planning, thereby improving responsible tourism management and development in Viet Nam; and creating the basis for tourism development planning implementation in regions, localities, key tourists areas and attracting tourism investment projects.
The field trip in Bac Ha District (Lao Cai Province)
Under the guidance of Mr. Peter Semon, after 5 days (from 1 to 5 August 2016), trainees were provided many overview information as well as basic skills and knowledge to implement the tourism development master plan, such as: the stages of project management; reduce risk and ensure transparency; roles and responsibilities of stakeholders... In addition, the training course also had many group discussion, case study activities, such as: Introduction about tourism development master planning of Quang Ninh Province; tourism product development strategy of Mekong River’s cruisers of UNWTO…
Also in the framework of the training course, the EU-ESRT Project organized the field trip in Bac Ha District (Lao Cai Province). The trainees had the opportunity to visit and experience the homestay service in Na Lo Hamlet, Ta Chai Commune; enjoy traditional art performances of Tay ethnic people; visit Hoang A Tuong Palace, etc.
