People in Lai Xa village, Kim Chung commune, Hoai Duc district, Ha Noi, on May 15th opened the Lai Xa Photography Museum.
Located in a two-storey house in the middle of the village with total exhibition area of 300sq.m, this is the first museum established by a Vietnamese community to showcase a local handicraft.
The museum displays about 140-150 photos, 25 panels and 15 glass cases with about 150 objects, offering guidance in Vietnamese and English.
Objects, photos and graphics tell the story of how photography became the traditional career of the village. There is a re-creation of an old studio, an exhibit on the originators of the medium, an explanation of the process of making photos by hand, a demonstration of old studio lighting methods and a collection of beautiful photos by today’s photographers in Lai Xa village.
Local people expressed their hope that the project, together with Nguyen Van Huyen Museum, will help the locality to become a new village - tourism destination of Ha Noi.
