Vietnamese gong artists perform at Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition in RoK
The World’s Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition 2008 was held in Bucheon, Republic of Korea (RoK) on October 10-30, 2008 drawing participants from Vietnam, China, Japan, Indonesia, Mongolia, Turkey, Russia and Tandania.
The exhibition attracted 12,000-14,000 visitors a day.
Vietnamese gong artists gave 2-3 gong culture performances each day from October 24-27, 2008 and took part in displays and conferences on the protection of intangible culture in the face of globalisation.
The region of gong culture in Vietnam’s Central Highlands was recognized by UNESCO as a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity in November 2005.
Kim Jeong-jae, a member of the organising board, said he was particularly interested in the Central Highland culture.
