HCM city, Vietnam Airlines sign deal to develop tourism

On June 29th, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh (HCM) city People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Phong and General Director of Vietnam Airlines Duong Tri Thanh signed a deal for cooperative programs in the 2017-2021 period.

Accordingly, in the next five years, the two sides will focus on five contents, including promoting investment, trade, tourism and aviation; surveying and forming products and tourism routes and destinations inside and outside the country; organizing annual regional and international events on culture, sports, education and tourism; cooperation in education and training, culture and sport promotion; and supporting business program of the city’s leaders while the city offers conditions to introduce Vietnam Airlines’ services to departments.

Mr. Tri Thanh said that the cooperation with HCM city is very significant because 65% of the carrier’s activities are operated in the southern hub.

The city is the most important base and also lays the premise for the carrier to develop, thus the carrier has high expectation of comprehensive cooperation between the two sides, he stressed.

Meanwhile, Mr. Thanh Phong noted the signing will benefit both sides. Vietnam Airlines has advantages to develop the market because HCM city owns big and potential tourism market, the city will take full advantage of the cooperation to realize its development goals, especially becoming a center of economics and information and technology in the region.

Last year, HCM city greeted 5.2 million foreign tourists. Annually, the hub sees 1.2 million people travelling abroad and about 4.2 million touring domestically.
