The Da Nang Department of Tourism launched the Da Nang Smile campaign on September 19, as part of the effort to turn the coastal city into a civilized, friendly, safe and attractive one to visitors.
Speaking at the launching ceremony, Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Ngoc Tuan said the event is part of activities in preparation for the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week hosted by Da Nang in this November.
The two-month campaign, the first of its kind in the city, calls on residents to show their smiley faces to tourists, a small action with long lasting effect that contributes to promote the Da Nang FantastiCity brand.
It features mass media coverage of the campaign, the building of tourism codes of conduct, and organisation of training courses for hospitality staff.
Last year, the Government allocated 400 billion VND (17.9 million USD) from the central government budget to support Da Nang’s preparations to host the 2017 APEC Summit.
During the week spanning from November 6 to 11, heads of state and CEOs from 21 APEC member economies will gather at the city for the key event of the APEC Year 2017.
