The backpacker area bounded by Pham Ngu Lao, Chu Van An and Vo Thi Sau streets in the ancient city of Hue has been turned into a pedestrians-only square every night from Friday to Sunday.
Nguyen Van Thanh, chairman of the city People’s Committee, said the area would be closed to all vehicles from 6pm to 2am on Fridays and Saturdays and 6pm to midnight on Sundays to create open spaces for locals and visitors to walk around and admire the beauty of the romantic Huong River at night.
City authorities have also green lighted a plan to set up food stalls on pavements.
Nguyen Dinh Chieu Street along the Huong River is already off-limits to vehicles.
