Bamboo Airways licensed to operate commercial flights
Update: Jan 10, 2019
The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) announced on January 8 that it has presented an Aircraft Operator Certificate (AOC) to Bamboo Airways, allowing the airline to begin commercial flights.

Accordingly, Bamboo Airways has passed all important tests during the AOC approval procedure. It has also undergone basic preparations of personnel and infrastructure for flight operations.

As planned, the carrier will operate 37 routes connecting major cities and tourist destinations at home and abroad in 2019.

The first domestic routes will be Ha Noi-Quy Nhon, Ha Noi-Dong Hoi, Ho Chi Minh City-Quy Nhon, Ha Noi- Ho Chi Minh City, and Ho Chi Minh City-Van Don. Up to 60 domestic flights per day are planned.

Flights to Asia and Europe such as Japan, the Republic of Korea, and Singapore will use wide-body aircraft.

Bamboo Airways of Viet Bamboo Airlines Co., is owned by property developer FLC Group. The Viet Bamboo Airlines Co., was established in 2017 with a chartered capital of 700 billion VND (31.4 million USD).

FLC has geared Bamboo Airways as a ‘hybrid’ airline, blending low-cost traits with those of traditional or full-service carriers. The group has also invested in infrastructure for aviation operations, such as upgrading Phu Cat Airport in Quy Nhon city and key roads connecting the airport to the Nhon Hoi Economic Zone.
