Amidst the rotation of work, many people are unable to schedule time to travel together with friends and relatives. As a result, many young people choose to embrace solo travel to freely enjoy and experience the world without being influenced by those around them.

Many experiences
Since the COVID-19 pandemic, many new forms of tourism have emerged, including solo travel. This form of tourism originated in the West and has become a trend in Vietnam in recent years.
Many young people are choosing solo travel as it allows them to independently decide on various destinations without depending on anyone else. The choosing of tourism services and arranging schedules are all freely decided based on personal needs, interests, and itinerary.
Taking advantage of Quy Mao Tet holiday 2023, Nguyen Thi Bich Huyen, a 26-year-old from Hue, has arranged her work to fulfill a trip to Japan that she has planned for a long time.
Bich Huyen said, “I used to be a student in Japan for 3 years. Since returning to Vietnam, I have always wanted to return to Japan, both to travel and to visit old friends. So, I have tried to arrange my work in Vietnam so that I will one day be able to go back to Japan by myself.”
“The reasons for my solo trip to Japan were partly because I was quite familiar with Japan, partly because it was difficult to find a companion during the trip. As a result, solo travel was the best option for me to have complete control over my time and expenses during the journey,” Bich Huyen shared.
Like Bich Huyen, 30-year-old Nguyen Duy Hai from Hue City also chose solo travel because of his interest in discovering new lands. Duy Hai revealed that he had traveled alone to many countries such as Japan, England, France, Singapore, and Thailand. Each of them gave him unique experiences that broadened his knowledge and understanding of many new things.
Duy Hai shared, “Through my solo travel experiences, I have gained more life experiences and lessons for myself, especially in terms of taking care of myself when I have no relatives nearby. These trips have also helped me make more new friends, most of whom share the same passion for travel. Moreover, traveling alone brings me unique impressions and emotions, even negative ones when I have to face unexpected difficulties alone."
Not just traveling
As society develops, many new professions have appeared, including “travel bloggers”. This is considered an emerging job that many young people pursue because of its free and flexible nature, which provides exciting experiences without being constrained by a specific space.
Nguyen Thi Quynh Anh, a 26-year-old travel blogger from Hue, said: “People often call me a ‘homeless person’ since my job often involves me wandering around on every road, street, or any place I want to explore. The life of a travel blogger is always associated with various belongings, from clothes, cameras, tripods, laptops... And most importantly, I consider the world as my second home.”
"Not only do I travel to new places, I also often share useful articles with the community after exploring a new land. It's not just about packing up and traveling, based on my own experiences, I always equip myself with the necessary skills. Due to the nature of my job which requires me to travel frequently, I often choose solo travel as this form of tourism makes me more proactive in everything while also achieving high efficiency, helping me focus on my work more easily.”
To have a perfect solo travel trip, a travel blogger must prepare carefully. In addition to enjoying the scenery and taking quality photos, we must constantly improve our knowledge of the culture, geography, and history of the destinations we want to visit. Additionally, honing life skills and physical fitness is also necessary to have a more meaningful journey.
With the support of technology, a series of travel service applications have become popular: from booking hotels, flights, to car rentals... which can be easily done with simple actions on smartphones.
For those with a passion for travel, "solo travel" is an exciting experience that we should not miss out on.
