Dalat to be beautified with 600,000 cherry trees
Update: Aug 02, 2009
The management board of the Tuyen Lam tourist site in the resort city of Dalat, Lam Dong Province, has announced it will plant nearly 600,000 cherry trees in Dalat from now to 2015.

Cherry is a special tree in Dalat, which cherry-blossoms flowers in late winter, early spring. The total funding for this project is VND 6 billion (nearly $335,000), including VND 1.5 billion from the state budget and the rest from over 30 investors involved in tourism projects around Tuyen Lam Lake, Dalat.

The Tuyen Lam tourist site’s management board has a 2ha nursery to serve this project.

Cherry trees will be grown on 113ha, averaging 5,000 trees per hectare. It is expected that the trees will blossom after four years.

The first 11,000 trees were planted on July 27.

The project organiser hopes that this project will create a unique tourism product for Dalat, where visitors can come to see cherry-blossoms at a certain time of year, like cherry blossoms in Japan.
