International volunteer campaign targets world heritage of Halong
Update: Aug 04, 2009
An international volunteer campaign will be held in Halong City, Quang Ninh Province from August 15-28 as part of a series of programmes on preserving world heritage initiated by UNESCO and the Coordinating Committee for International Voluntary Service (CCIVS).

Thirteen volunteers from Vietnam, Canada, France, Germany and the Republic of Korea, are expected to joint the event, which will include discussions on cultural heritages and study trips to Halong Bay nearby coal mines and fishing villages.

They will also join local children, young people and residents in painting contests, fashion shows and collecting rubbish on beaches.

Organizers hope the activities will give the volunteers an insight into problems facing the famous bay and help relate them to world heritage issues.

The UNESCO and the CCIVS initiated the series of 12 world heritage preservation and promotion programmes entitled “World Heritage Volunteers: Patrimony to rolls up the sleeves” in 2007.
