Update: Aug 16, 2009
More than 100 domestic and foreign researchers, architectures and experts gathered at an international seminar on the research and restoration of the Can Chanh Palace (Hue Royal Citadel) in the former imperial Hue City on August 13.

The seminar is part of a cooperation programme between the Hue Imperial Relics Preservation Centre (HIRPC) and the Japanese Waseda University’s UNESCO World Heritage Institute.

“This is the third time the HIRPC has held such a seminar to introduce the results of the programme’s activities as well as research results to serve the Can Chanh Palace restoration project,” said its Director Phung Phu.

The first seminar took place in Hue city in 1997 and the second in Hanoi in 2006, he added.

The programme, which was carried out since 1994, is designed to conduct comprehensive research on Hue relics and provide scientific foundations for sustainable preservation and restoration of these relics, including the Can Chanh Palace.

The Thua Thien-Hue Provincial People’s Committee is proposing the Japanese Government to provide non-refundable official development assistance (ODA) capital to the Can Chanh Palace restoration project for the 2010-2015 period.
