The Hanoi Municipal People’s Committee on February 3 honoured 16 traditional craft villages and 17 artisans for 2009 in contributing to restoring and developing traditional handicrafts.
The honour was made in recognition of contributions villages and artisans made in preserving and promoting tangible and intangible cultural values.
This year’s honour brought the total awarded craft villages and artisans in Hanoi to 272 and 116, respectively.
The capital city now has 1,270 handicraft villages, employing almost 1 million labourers or 42% of the total workers in the city’s industrial and craft sectors.
The craft villages earned VND7 trillion in 2009, accounting for 10% of the city’s industrial and craft production value.
