One hundred bronze drums are being cast for the 1,000th anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi in the traditional way, replicating the decorations of the four ancient drums of Ngoc Lu, Hoang Ha, Quang Xuong and Song Da, and some patterns of Thang Long - Hanoi.
The drums, 60cm in diameter and 48cm in height, are in Dong Son District, which is believed to be the home of the casting of bronze drums in Vietnam. So far, 26 drums have been completed and the remainders are expected to be finished before September 12, 2010.
The 100 drums will be on display at the Literature Temple in Hanoi and will be played only once at the grand ceremony for the millennium anniversary in October.
