Exhibition on Mekong residents opens in Laos

An exhibition entitled “Mekong’s stories: Challenge and Dream” opened in the Lao capital of Vientiane on April 6, 2011.


Present at the opening ceremony were Lao Deputy Minister of Information and Culture Buangeun Saphuvong, Vietnamese Ambassador to Laos Ta Minh Chau, the Cambodian Ambassador to Laos and representatives from the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA).


The exhibition is the result of a cultural preservation project jointly carried out by museums and cultural agencies of Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia, and the Swedish National Museum of World Culture.

On display were photos and artifacts, introducing nine stories about residents living along the Mekong River in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia, giving visitors an insight into their lives, dreams and struggles.


Organised by the Lao National Museum and the Swedish National Museum of World Culture, the exhibition will open until June 6, 2011 then move on to Luang Prabang province.
