Japan-Vietnam Day in city opens on Sunday

The Consulate General of Japan in HCMC and the Japan Foundation Center for Cultural Exchange in Vietnam will host the Japan-Vietnam Day in the city from 8:30 a.m. on Sunday at HCMC Youth Cultural House, 4 Pham Ngoc Thach Street in District 1.

The event, which will give locals a chance to join traditional games and enjoy artistic shows of Japan, aims to bolster cultural exchanges between the countries.

The highlight of this year's event is the performances by Japanese duo Aki and Kuniko who will play koto (a traditional Japanese string instrument) and acoustic guitar at the venue at from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. The event also features a wide range of activities including making Japanese kites, making tore paper paintings on Japanese paper fan, arranging origami paper works, paling yo-yo, Japanese singing contest for Vietnamese and performing cosplay.

There will be a photo exhibition on the country, people and culture of Japan. The organizers will also screen documentary films and talk about education programs in Japan.
