A cannon dating back to the Nguyen Dynasty (the 19th century) has been discovered in Thac Ba Lake, in the northern mountainous province of Yen Bai.
The cannon was found by local residents in the Phuc An Ward of Yen Binh district, when they were fishing.
As soon as it was retrieved from the lake it was sent for restoration at the Yen Bai Provincial Museum.
After examining the antique weapon, Tran Xuan Ca, the museum's Director claimed that it was cast during the Nguyen Dynasty in the 13th year of the reign of Minh Menh, who was Emperor from 1820-1841.
The cannon is 121 centimeters long, weighs 400 kilograms and has a diameter of 25 centimeters.
This is the fourth cannon from the Nguyen Dynasty to have been unearthed in Yen Bai province.
