The Hue Monuments Conservation Centre on November 13 held a ceremony to celebrate the beginning of the Dien Phuoc Princess temple restoration project. Funding for the VND2.2 billion (US$104,760) undertaking is coming from the UNESCO World Heritage Institute at Japan's Waseda University .
The temple was built in 1854 to worship Princess Dien Phuoc, the eldest daughter of King Thieu Tri, the third emperor of the Nguyen Dynasty reigning from 1824-1848.
The temple possesses extraordinary architecture, historical and cultural importance. It was built in traditional style with unique imperial palace construction techniques.
The majority of the temple's interior decorations, including a bronze book on the Princess' merit, are intact.
