Foreigners visiting HCMC surge 8 percent during Tet holiday

The number of foreign tourists to HCMC during the lunar New Year (Tet) holiday served by leading tourism businesses in the city increased by 8 percent from the same period last year, according to the city's department of culture, sport and tourism.

JTB and Saigontourist saw the largest rises in number of foreign tourists, at 30 percent and 14 percent, respectively. Other travel companies having average increases from 5 percent to 10 percent included Vietravel, Ben Thanh, Fiditour, Hoa Binh Vietnam and Apex. Revenue from foreign tourists also rose by 7 percent from the same period last year.

The outbound tourism market was very busy with numerous choices for tourists. Tourists travelling abroad served by leading local travel companies during Tet holiday 2013 surged about 10 percent compared to the same period last year, increasing turnover by about 9 percent. Saigontourist saw the largest increase of 45 percent, while Vietravel, Ben Thanh and Fiditour had an average rise of 8-12 percent.
