Buffalo fighting festival recognized as national heritage

(TITC) - On 12th Sept., People's Committee of Hai Phong held a ceremony to announce the recognition of the Do Son buffalo fighting festival as the national intangible heritage.

 

This was also an activity in the framework of the National Tourism Year-the Red River Delta – Hai Phong 2013.

 

Speaking at the announcement ceremony, Vice Chairman of Hai Phong's People's Committee, Mr. Le Khac Nam said the Do Son buffalo fighting festival appeared about 1,000 years ago. Throughout the ups and downs in history, buffalo fighting festival has been restored since 1990.

 

After 24 years, the festival has constantly been preserved and developed both folk elements and traditional intangible culture values.

 

This recognition will contribute to preservation and promotion of Viet Nam's culture.

 

The traditional festival, which is held annually on the ninth day of the eighth lunar month, not only expresses the martial spirit of the local people, but also promotes the image and tourism potential of Hai Phong City.
