Vietnam tops the number of tourists to Cambodia

Vietnam ranked first in the number of tourists visiting Cambodia last year, with around 854,000 people, up 12% compared with 2012’s figure, according to a report from Cambodia’s Ministry of Tourism.

In 2013, Cambodia received approximately 4.2 million foreign arrivals, bringing a turnover of over US$2.5 billion to the country. China came second in the number of visitors to Cambodia with 463,000, closely followed by the Republic of Korea with 435,000.

The most popular tourist destinations in Cambodia are Siem Reap with the famous temple of Angkor Wat, the Royal Palace historic relics in Phnom Penh and the ancient temple of Preah Vihear Temple.

Tourism is the spearhead of Cambodia's economy, regularly achieving a stable growth of 15%-20% it accounts for a massive proportion of Cambodia’s GDP.

In 2012, Cambodia received 3.584 million foreign visitors and earned a revenue of US$2.21 billion.
