The number of foreign tourists to the northern province of Quang Ninh increased sharply in the first three months this year, reaching an estimated 1 million arrivals, a year-on-year rise of 19 percent, according to the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
This figure included nearly 430,000 tourist arrivals staying in the province overnight, a 17 percent rise over a year earlier. Foreign tourists received by domestic business delegations reached 139,000 arrivals, up 9 percent, while more than 53,000 arrivals visited Ha Long Bay, up 7 percent.
In the first quarter, Quang Ninh greeted dozens of international cruise ships from well-known firms such as Costa, Azamara, Henna and Celebrity Millennium.
The swelling tourist numbers contributed to pushing the province’s tourism turnover to over VND1.51 trillion, a 15 percent rise compared to the same period last year.
