The People’s Committee of Bac Ninh province has approved a project on preserving and promoting cultural heritage values of Dong Ho folk painting in the 2014-2020 period and orientations towards 2030, worth nearly VND60 billion.
Accordingly, VND2.1 billion (nearly USD100,000) will go to restoring and develop the paintings over the next two years.
Another VND50 billion (USD2.3 million) will be spent on building a centre to conserve and promote the art over the next six years.
The rest of the funds will be spent on compiling dossier seeking for UNESCO’s recognition of the genre as part of the intangible cultural heritage in need of urgent protection. The work will be carried out between now and 2016.
The project will be implemented by Bac Ninh provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Thuan Thanh district People’s Committee, and the Viet Nam Institute of Culture and Arts Studies.
At first, the project will study and access values of Dong Hong folk painting; preserve and restore this intangible cultural heritage in the community; analyze the real situation of its value preservation; forecast effects which may cause the art oblivion; and compile a dossier to submit UNESCO.
