The central city of Da Nang, in coordination with the Vietnamese Embassy in Russia, organised a programme in Moscow on August 18 to promote local tourism.
Speaking before a crowd of representatives from Russian travel agencies, Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Van Huu Chien highlighted the city’s potential for developing tourism, including a 60km long beach, a convenient location accessible by land, air, and sea as well as its proximity to three World Heritage sites – the ancient imperial city of Hue, the ancient port town of Hoi An and the Cham holy land of My Son.
Da Nang is considered as the most liveable city in Viet Nam, Chien noted, adding that the city welcomed more than 3 million visitors, including 750,000 foreigners, last year.
The official called on Russian travel firms to pay more attention to the city in the coming time.
The city’s representatives also introduced to participants attractions in the city such as popular tourist destinations, entertainment facilities, cultural activities, accommodations and international flights.
In the first half of this year, Da Nang saw more than 1.7 million tourist arrivals, up 15.8 percent from the same period last year. Of this, the number of foreigners topped 450,600, a year-on-year rise of 15.7 percent.
Da Nang is home to an international airport with eight domestic routes and 20 international ones, an international seaport which welcomes 700,000 arrivals each year, and 337 accommodation facilities, including 10 five-star and nine four-star hotels and resorts.
The city has been ranked among the top ten most outstanding new emerging destinations in Asia in 2014 by the users of agoda.com, a renowned hotel booking website.
