After success in Ho Chi Minh City, the handicrafts from Japan’s disasters-hit Tohoku are on display at an exhibition which has recently opened at the Viet Nam Fine Arts Museum, No 66 Nguyen Thai Hoc Street, Ba Dinh District in Ha Noi.
The exhibition features works of mingei members (the Japanese folk arts movement developed in the late 1920s and 1930s in Japan), including Kanjiro Kawai, Shoji Hamada, Keisuke Serizawa and Shiko Munakata.
The exhibits are made of various materials like ceramics, lacquerware, metal, wood and bamboo, offering visitors a chance to discover Tohoku’s high level of traditional craft techniques as well as the aesthetics of daily utensils used since ancient times in Japan.
The event will run until December 22nd to commemorate the March 11th, 2011 earthquake and tsunami that hit the Tohoku region, which is famous for its beautiful mountains and seascapes as well as its rich local culture and history.
