A document-based exhibition showcasing the process of constructing and opening the “duong Hanh Phuc” (Happiness road) during 1960’s was held in the northern province of Ha Giang on March 16.
The five-day event is to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the road’s establishment (March 20, 1965-2015).
The road was named by the late President Ho Chi Minh, encompassing 185 kilometres of National Highway 4C from Ha Giang city to the four mountainous districts of Quan Ba, Yen Minh, Dong Van, and Meo Vac.
The road’s construction was commenced on September 10, 1959 and completed on March 20, 1965 through significant contributions by thousands of voluntary youths from northern provinces of Cao Bang, Bac Kan, Lang Son, Thai Nguyen, Tuyen Quang, Ha Giang, Hai Duong and Nam Dinh.
Department Head Nguyen Thi Hang said documents featuring hardships faced during the construction and the ultimate achievements the road represents, the event aims to showcase glorious eras in the nation’s history and increase understanding of ethnic minority groups, particularly among local youths.
