Nearly 130,000 tourists, visited Quang Ninh province from April 28 to May 1, according to Quang Ninh’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
Ha Long Bay, one of the most popular travel destinations in Quang Ninh province, attracted nearly 90,000 visitors during the national week-long holiday. Most notably, over 25,000 domestic and international tourists visited Ha Long Bay on May 1.
The bay, which means "Bay of Descending Dragons", has been recognised twice by UNESCO as a World Heritage Area for its world-famous landscapes, geology and geomorphology, in 1994 and 2000.
Covering 1,553 square kilometres, Ha Long Bay has 1,969 islands of various sizes, 989 of which have been named. While exploring the bay, visitors have the chance to venture into a legendary world of stone islands of which change shape depending on the angle and the lights reflection.
Thanks to its inherent natural beauty, Ha Long Bay attracts tens of thousands of domestic and overseas visitors each year.
In 2014, Quang Ninh welcomed 7.5 million visitors, 2.5 million of which were international travellers, collecting over VND 5.5 trillion. The total number of visitors to the province in the first three months of this year has been estimated at over 2.9 millions, up 2% compared to the same period last year. The tourism sectors total revenue hit over VND1.6 trillion, a year-on-year rise of 15%.
