Music performance in Hoi An Ancient Town (Quang Nam Province)

(TITC) - In order to enrich tourism products attracting tourists to Hoi An, recently, People’s Committee of Hoi An City has allowed two groups of “Piano sound – Childhood melody” and “Ancient melody” to perform in the ancient town.
Accordingly, “Piano sound – Childhood melody” group performs from 19h to 21h on Friday of the first week and all days of the third week every month in No. 78 Le Loi Street. The group has the participations of pupils from Grade 2 to Grade 7 of the primary and secondary schools in Hoi An City. By pianos, the little artists will perform famous songs of world talented musicians such as Johann Pachelpel, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Ludwig van Beethoven, Ferderic Francois Chopin, Richard Clayderman, Theodore Oesten, Yiruma... This is the program to serve tourists and also the opportunity for Hoi An’s children to show their talents and promote the tradition of classical and chamber music.
The street group of “Ancient melody” is a family group with members who are descendents of musician La Hoi. The group performs on the 14th day of every lunar month at “Hoi An Ancient Town’s Night” program in No. 31 Nguyen Thai Hoc Street. The group specializes in playing foreign and domestic famous old music by the piano, bass guitar, violin, mandolin and harmonica.

Located at the downstream junction of Thu Bon River, belongs to the coastal plain of Quang Nam Province, Hoi An used to be a bustling international trading port, where gathered many merchant ships from Japanese, Chinese and Western from 16th to 19th centuries and is known for many different names such as Lam Ap, Faifo, Hoai Pho ... The foreign businessmen settled in Hoi An contributed to creating a community with diversified cultural identity, typically architectural works including many residential buildings, assembly halls, temples, shrines, family chapels, docks, markets... and the narrow roads crossing as the chessboard style. Now, Hoi An Ancient Town are still intactly preserved and covered by an ancient moss color as a vivid picture. Besides, belief culture and daily life of Hoi An people are also conserved, especially the culture of using lanterns of Japanese and Chinese becomes a special cultural feature of Hoi An.
To recreate the image of Hoi An Ancient Town in the early 20th century, People’s Committee of Hoi An City allowed to organize “Hoi An Ancient Town’s Night” program twice a month in the evening of the 1st and 14th days of every lunar month. Attending the program, tourists will be immersed in the life of Hoi An people through activities such as night market, bai choi singing, street music, flower lanterns in Hoai River… The special feature of the program is the ancient town space without electric light, sound of vehicles and electrical appliances, only the light from the lanterns hang under the eaves and the two side of doors. In particular, on Hoai River, flower lanterns dropped one by one or in arrays light a corner of the river.
