A photo exhibition called Visions of the Netherlands in the framework of the cultural exchange activities between Vietnam and the Netherlands was opened to the public at the General Sciences Library, 69 Ly Tu Trong Street, District 1, HCMC.
This is the third time the Consulate General of the Netherlands in HCMC and the General Sciences Library have organized this exhibition after successful ones in 2006 and 2007.
About 80 photos introduce to the public an image of the Netherlands with its natural beauty, culture, sports, arts, architecture, technology and agriculture. The organizing committee hopes this exhibition will be a bridge to link Vietnamese people to an impression of the modern Netherlands, besides its traditional images of tulips, windmills and wooden shoes which have left deep impressions on people’s minds for a long time.
“I had a chance to visit the Netherlands in 2001. This country has left a gentle feeling in me. If you want to find a flashy or luxurious image, you will be soon disappointed because the Netherlands’ is so peaceful and simple in its own ways and the people are very nice and straightforward. Talking about culture or arts, people usually have a tendency to think about countries like the U.K., France, India or China but to me the Netherlands is like a small star but still sparkling on the map of culture and arts. I hope this kind of exhibition will be promoted and organized regularly not only for the Netherlands but also other countries. It makes chances for audiences, especially the youth and children, to learn and know more about culture, people of other countries,†said an elderly woman, who did not want to state her name, at the exhibition on Wednesday.
The exhibition, open 7:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday to Friday and 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, runs until November 22.
