Images of Uncle Ho and General Vo Nguyen Giap on display in Hanoi
Update: Feb 03, 2010
Seventy coconut shell mosaics by artist Vo Quy Quoc depicting portraits of Vietnamese President Ho Chi Minh and General Vo Nguyen Giap are on display at the Exhibition House, 29 Hang Bai Street in Hanoi.

The images of Uncle Ho are presented respectfully and cover his youth when he was determined to find the right way to national peace and freedom to his later years when he was worried over how to bring happiness and prosperity to his people.

Images of General Vo Nguyen Giap depict a victorious hero with an iron will and a dedication to the nation’s freedom.

“The coconut shell is a very familiar object with Vietnamese who use it as a water ladle and rice bowl and the coconut also represents peace in the countryside. Therefore, I want to bring the simple material into art and make unique paintings variant from oil paintings and Dong Ho paintings,” said Quoc.

To promote the work to foreign tourists and to bring it abroad, Quoc, together with some businessmen, established Hac Thien Viet Company in Hanoi to organize events promoting coconut-shell paintings.

The exhibition runs till January 6.
