Caravelle holds wine dinner with charity auction
Update: Nov 30, 2010
The Caravelle Hotel will hold a dinner introducing eight wines from Château Beychevelle in France’s Bordeaux region with commentaries by the French vineyard’s manager on December 11.

The acclaimed wines will accompany an eight course meal from the hotel’s Reflections Restaurant.

To raise money for charity, a 700 euro magnum of Château Beychevelle Saint-Julien 2008 signed by Philippe Blanc, who runs the winery, will be auctioned off.

The wines will range from the 1985 Beychevelle to the chateau’s 2003 offering. Each vintage won high praise from the American wine critic, Robert Parker, Jr., who devised a now-famous 100-point rating system.

Château Beychevelle is a winery in the Saint-Julien appellation of the Bordeaux region of France. The 90-hectare vineyard, planted on deep, Garonnegravel soil, has a winegrowing tradition dating from the Middle Ages. It is known as the “Versailles of the Medoc” as a tribute to its classic French architecture and gardens.

Chef Darren Watson will open the dinner with a goat cheese puff pastry mille feuille, to be paired with the Chateau’s 2003 vintage. Other courses will be rabbit terrine, glazed quail, duck breast, lamb loin and beef ribs.

Proceeds from the auction will go to the International Disability Day event on Dec. 3 from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Suoi Tien Theme Park in HCMC’s District 9.

Tickets for the wine dinner are VND 1.96 million net per person.
