(TITC) - On 13 October 2015, in Ha Noi, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Huynh Vinh Ai had a working session with leaders of People’s Committee of Can Tho City on organizing the 5th Southern Traditional Cake Festival 2016.
Accordingly, the 5th Southern Traditional Cake Festival 2016 themed “Specialties towards integration” will take place from 15 to 19 April 2016 (the 9th day to the 13th day of the third lunar month) in Cai Khe Islet Roundabout (Ninh Kieu District, Can Tho City). This is a main activity of Mekong River Delta Tourism Week to respond Visit Viet Nam Year 2016 in Phu Quoc (Kien Giang Province). The festival is expected to attract about 150 booths from provinces/cities nationwide and abroad. Besides the opening and closing ceremonies, the festival will also have many attractive activities such as: exhibition on Southern traditional cakes and specialties of the regions; introducing and serving Southern traditional cakes; performance of cake making art; cake making contest; street festival and folk games; Mekong River Delta folk music night; final of Miss Mekong River Delta…
Identifing the Southern traditional cake festival is one of core activities to respond Visit Viet Nam Year 2016, Deputy Minister Huynh Vinh Ai directed Can Tho City to implement the organization plan and foster promotion activities, so that the festival becomes an attractive tourism brand of the city.
The Southern traditional cake festive day has been held since 2012 in Can Tho City and has become an annual traditional cuisine culture activity of the city. In 2015, the festive day was upgraded into the Southern folk cake festival and attracted about 160,000 visitor arrivals; introduced more than 100 traditional cake types and 50 dishes made from local materials with typical flavors of Southern cuisine. The festival aims to preserve and promote Southern traditional cuisine values, contribute to introducing and promoting typical traditional cakes of the Southern to domestic and foreign visitors.
