The northern province of Quang Ninh greeted about 500,000 tourists during the nine-day Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday 2016 (from February 7th to 14th), a year-on-year increase of 16-18%, reported the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Of these, 100,000 tourists stayed overnight in the province. Travelers to Ha Long mainly spent their vacation from the first to sixth day of the holiday, with most of them being foreigners from China, the Republic of Korea and Western Europe.

In addition, tourists to relics and tourism attractions in the locality rose sharply to about 40,000-45,000 arrivals. The most popular sites were Yen Tu (Uong Bi), Ngoa Van pagoda (Dong Trieu), Cua Ong temple (Cam Pha), Cai Bau pagoda (Van Don) and Long Tien pagoda (Ha Long).

Traveler numbers crossing via Mong Cai border gate reached over 4,000 a day. Specifically, on the peak day (February 10th), Mong Cai city welcomed nearly 6,500 travelers, most of them being Chinese.

During the holiday, Quang Ninh also received five international cruise ships bringing some 5,000 holiday-makers to Ha Long city.
