Viet Nam cultural festival in Australia in full swing
Update: Nov 25, 2016
Vietfest 2016, an annual Vietnamese cultural festival, opened at the Australian National University (ANU) in Canberra on November 24.

Visitors were offered a glimpse into Viet Nam’s culture through performances of traditional musical instruments, including dan bau (monochord zither), Vietnamese flute and dan tranh (plucked zither).

The event also featured a flashmob dance and a talent competition of Vietnamese students in Australia.

Stalls displaying Vietnamese handicrafts and food were a main attraction to visitors.

Proceeds will be donated to charity programmes in Viet Nam, such as the “For beloved Hoang Sa-Truong Sa” and the Vu A Dinh scholarship fund in support of coast guards, fishermen and poor students.

Luc Anh Tuan, head of the Vietnamese Youth & Students’ Association in Canberra – the organiser of the festival, said Vietfest has received great support from the Vietnamese Embassy in Australia, the ANU and the University of New South Wales for several years.

He added that to raise funds for the festival this year, his association hosted a teatime concert that received a warm welcome from the Vietnamese community in Canberra.
