Workshop on MICE tourism development in Ho Chi Minh City

(TITC) - On 6 September 2017, in GEM Convention Centre, Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Nam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) in collaboration with Ho Chi Minh City’s Department of Tourism and Informa Exhibitions (Singapore) held a workshop on MICE tourism development with the theme “Ho Chi Minh City – A new international MICE centre in Southeast Asia”. This is an important activity in the framework of the 13th International Travel Expo – Ho Chi Minh City 2017 (ITE – HCMC 2017).

The workshop had the attendances of Mr. Ha Van Sieu – Vice Chairman of VNAT; Mr. Nguyen Quy Phuong – Director of Travel Department (under VNAT); Mr. La Quoc Khanh - Deputy Director of Ho Chi Minh City’s Department of Tourism; Mr. Ben Wieglus - Director of Sustainable Development of Informa Exhibitions; and representatives from tour operators at home and abroad, tourism enterprises, 5-star hotels; international experts and speakers; domestic and international press.

Speaking at the workshop, Mr. Nguyen Quy Phuong said Viet Nam’s Government has had many policies to support and promote MICE tourism development. Ho Chi Minh City has determined MICE tourism as one of main tourism products. The opinions and shares of delegates at the workshop will contribute to bringing Ho Chi Minh City into the new international MICE centre in Southeast Asia.

Overview of the workshop

At the workshop, the delegates presented some speeches related to MICE tourism development in Ho Chi Minh City; discussed on the mechanism and policies of the State in supporting MICE tourism development, available strengths, services, utilities of Ho Chi Minh City on MICE tourism; etc; and proposed solutions to develop Ho Chi Minh City become an attractive MICE tourism destination in ASEAN region. The tourism enterprises also introduced products and services to serve MICE tourism in Ho Chi Minh City.
