As a move to sustainable tourism, Co To island district, Quang Ninh province has issued a regulation on prohibiting visitors from bringing in plastic bags and bottles. The ban would be trialed for a few months before it becomes official.

Together with this pilot program, Co To authorities also called on every resident to actively respond to anti-plastic waste activities and promote the non-use of plastic bags in practical ways.

The island district comprises Co To Lon (large Co To island), Co To Be (small Co To island) and 15 smaller islands. From Cai Rong port in Van Don district, another island district of Quang Ninh province, travellers can take high-speed boat trips that take an hour and a half to cover the distance.
Co To’s attractions include turquoise sea and tranquil beaches along with tropical primeval forest eco-system that is almost in its primary conditions. The island is also famous for abundant fresh and diverse seafood, along with many historical and cultural sites.
