The five-star Majestic Hotel in downtown HCMC will start work on an expansion project early next year, with a new 28-story building of 205 rooms and 19,000 square meters of office space plus parking space to be developed.
Nguyen Anh Vu, general manager of the hotel, told the Daily that Saigontourist Holding Company as its parent company would begin construction on the project adjacent to the hotel’s current premises on Ton Duc Thang Street in District 1.
After three years of construction, the whole Majestic Hotel will become a complex of 380 rooms, plus offices and other facilities at the corner of the Dong Khoi, Ton Duc Thang and Nguyen Hue streets. The original French architecture of the Majestic will be preserved.
“We’ve almost completed site clearance to make room for the project. We are calculating the final cost of the project,†Vu said yesterday on the occasion of the celebration of the hotel’s 85th anniversary. Saigontourist initiated a plan to turn the Majestic into the hotel and office complex some years ago. The development is however later than expected due to slow site clearance.
The hotel is one of the top ten five-star hotels of the country as rated by the Vietnam Tourism Association.
The Majestic reported average room occupancy at 60.6% in the first half of this year and revenue of VND100 billion, up 15% year-on-year, with the food and beverage sector contributing more than VND35 billion, up 30%. Room service revenue grew 3.5% to VND47.5 billion.
