August Revolution vestiges in the heart of Ha Noi

Ha Noi Capital is not only the country's political and economical center, but also the land which has preserved many cultural and historical vestiges of the important moments of the nation. Therefore, the August Revolution in 1945 and its legend of this important event still echo forever in the life of everyone in Viet Nam.

These are the stories attached to vestiges such as: The House at No. 48 Hang Ngang, Ba Dinh Square, August Revolution Square, Ha Noi Flag Tower... These places have contributed to attracting people to Ha Noi of thousand years.

 
August Revolution Square

 

August Revolution in 1945 was marked by important events took place in downtown of Ha Noi on the morning of August 19, 1945. At the Opera House Square, more than 100,000 Hanoians were participating in the meeting, beginning the general uprising to seize power. Before that, it was the place where many national important political meetings hold, such as the premieres of the Viet Minh Front (on August 17, 1945) and the Viet Bac Liberation Army (August 29, 1945). To celebrate the events which play the decisive role in the revolution, the Opera House Square was later renamed August Revolution Square.

 

Located at the axis of Trang Tien and Hang Khay Streets, the Cach Mang Thang Tam (August Revolution) Square appears as one of the major outdoor points of the city and it is surrounded by great architectural works, including the Ha Noi Opera House, Viet Nam History Museum and Hilton Hotel.  It now serves as the place for cultural activities of Hanoians. At night, when the electric lights shimmering, Ha Noi Opera House became splendid, the front steps run along creating the August Revolution Square is a elegant space, where now serves as the place for cultural activities of Hanoians.

 

Nearly a century has elapsed with many ups and downs in its development, but the August Revolution Square with its great historic and cultural value remains intact, particularly its blend of ancient and modern architecture which will become the city’s heritage.  It has also proven to be a historic artefact of the cultural and social development of Ha Noi and Viet Nam through different revolution periods.

 

House No. 48 Hang Ngang

 

After the August Revolution succeeded, on August 24, 1945 President Ho Chi Minh left Tan Trao to Ha Noi and lived in Phu Gia. On August 25, General Secretary Truong Chinh and General Vo Nguyen Giap picked up Uncle Ho from Phu Gia to the house No. 48 Hang Ngang which belongs to Mrs. and Mr. Trinh Van Bo, a merchant supporting the Revolution.

 

President Ho Chi Minh stayed and worked at this house from August 25 to early September 1945. He and the Standing Committee of the Party’s Central Committee laid down many important policies on internal and external affairs, took decisions on the regime and nominated staff of the new Government and the organization of the Independence Ceremony.


Especially, President Ho Chi Minh wrote in this house the historical Declaration of Independence to give birth to the Democratic Republic of Viet Nam.

 

The house is a value cultural and historical vestige and has been becoming a popular place for visitors.

 

Ba Dinh Square

 
65 years ago, at the Ba Dinh Square, tens of thousands of Vietnamese people had seen the moment of national history - the Declaration of Independence on September 2, 1945. Ba Dinh Square is a historical mark that can not fade in the minds of each Vietnamese people. Here, President Ho Chi Minh read the "Declaration of Independence," declaring the birth of the Democratic Republic of Viet Nam, the first People’s Democratic State in Southeast Asia. From this time, as the real owner of the country, the Vietnamese people under the leadership of the Vietnamese Communist Party have been steadfastly struggling against invaders and building the country. After more than half century, this historical venue is added more with Ba Dinh Hall, Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, Ho Chi Minh Museum and the Heroic Martyrs Memorial and this place has become a familiar and sacred name, pride of the people not only in Ha Noi, but also throughout the country. Nowadays, Ba Dinh Square is place where many great events of the country are taken place.

 

Flag Tower Ha Noi

 
As one of five relics has intact preserved in the Thang Long Imperial Citadel complex, Ha Noi Flag Tower is a sacred symbol of the land of Thang Long - Ha Noi. August Revolution succeeded, the Democratic Republic of Viet Nam was born, the golden-star red flag had been flying the first time here. After a nine-year resistance, on October 10, 1954, Ha Noi was liberated, the golden-star red flag has continued proudly fly atop the flag tower to present.


Standing on the tower, visitors will see a quiet peace of Ha Noi, with the nearby of ancient citadel, Uncle Ho's Mausoleum and the Museum of Military History beneath the flagpole. Visitors also find out a bustling of Ha Noi with the busy roads and streets around... Nearly two centuries since it was built, Ha Noi Flag Tower is still
influential and proud; it stands there to witness the ups and downs along with the capital as well as the country. Since the country is completely independent, step into period of innovating, building, cooperation developing, this place has become a tourist attractions regularly welcome many domestic and foreign visitors.

 

These revolution vestiges witnessed the important historical events of the country. These are "red addresses" which importantly contribute to create a great epic of Viet Nam in the 20th century. The glorious battles and great victories have become historical events, but these vestiges is always brilliant, always remind and encourage Hanoians in particular and Vietnamese people in general in constructing Ha Noi Capital - City for Peace, civilization and modern.
