Late this year, citizens can enjoy music performances and sporting events such as boat races on Nhieu Loc Canal and Tau Hu Canal, which used to be seriously polluted but have been cleaned up.
Nguyen Viet Anh, head of the Travel Division under the HCMC Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said relevant agencies are preparing for these activities.
Although there are some low bridges across Nhieu Loc Canal disallowing boats to pass through, the areas in districts 1, 3 and Binh Thanh are quite open, so entertainment events can be held here to attract local residents and tourists, he said.
Such activities are part of the program for inner-city river tourism development.
At present, Indochina Travel Yacht Co. is operating the tour Bach Dang Wharf-Ben Nghe Canal-Tau Hu Canal-Long Hoa Pagoda. Other river tours from Bach Dang Wharf to District 2 and Cu Chi are also available.
HCMC vice chairwoman Nguyen Thi Hong, along with senior officials of the tourism department and related agencies, will go on a survey trip from Bach Dang Wharf to Ben Duoc Monument in Cu Chi District tomorrow in a bid to accelerate the development of ports, stations and other services facilities for this river tour.
Daily Co. Ltd. is operating weekly river tours from Bach Dang Wharf to Ben Duoc.
