Hue sees big rise in number of Thai tourists

The central province of Thua Thien Hue saw a large increase in the number of Thai tourists in the first ten months of this year, accounting for 16 percent of all foreign arrivals in the locality.

During the period, the province welcomed almost nearly 715,000 foreign arrivals out of a total of 2.2 million visitors, up 10.6 percent over the same period last year.

As a result, the province earned more than 1 trillion VND from the tourism industry, an annual increase of 25.2 percent.

Apart from Thailand, most holiday-makers were from France, Australia, Germany, the US, the UK, Japan, the Republic of Korea, China, Spain and Netherlands.

According to the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism Phan Tien Dung, thanks to improvements in the infrastructure along the East West Economic Corridor, linking Vietnam, Laos and Thailand , the number of Thai visitors to Hue has risen sharply.

The local tourism sector also received a boost from the agreement on tourism cooperation signed between the Ministers of Culture, Sports and Tourism from Mekong Sub-region nations, which allows tourists to use one visa for Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar and Thailand, Dung added.

He said that Thua Thien – Hue , with its popular tourism destinations and beautiful beaches, will attract more holiday-makers from Thailand and other nations around the region.

The number of foreigners to visit Hue by sea has reached 30,435 in recent times, most from China, Italy, Spain, the UK, the US, Canada and Australia.

The provincial’s tourism sector has set a target of welcoming 40,000 sea borne visitors to the locality this year.
