Hue to host 5th Traditional Craft Festival
Update: Apr 10, 2013
The fifth Traditional Craft Festival will be held in central Hue city from April 27 to May 1, aiming at promoting the development of traditional crafts and craft villages as well as the tourism industry.

According to Chairman of the municipal People's Committee Phan Trong Vinh, the festival, themed "The Quintessence of Vietnamese Crafts", is expected to see the participation of craftsmen from provinces nationwide as well as foreign artisans.

A new special feature in this festival will be a display entitled "Heritage on the Move" as part of the Mestamorphoses exhibition from France, introducing five exceptional French textile techniques, he said.

Taking place along the banks of Huong River, the festival will feature a wide range of activities, including the "Magic" fashion show by Vietnamese designer Minh Hanh in collaboration with her partners from France, the Philippines and Hong Kong; an outdoor exhibition of bamboo works; and a display of products made by 20 artisans, creators and designers.

In addition, a variety of antique exhibitions, community activities, street art, installations, Hue cuisine and folk games will be held to show visitors the natural beauty and hospitality of local people.

On this occasion, visitors will have a chance to meet artisans from craft villages in Hue and other localities nationwide.

Within the festival's framework, a workshop themed "Craft Villages with Tourism Industry" Potentials and Bottlenecks” will be organised to evaluate their potential, current status, bottlenecks and the development prospects of craft villages in the ancient capital city of Hue.

The festival will link trade villages' production with cultural, tourism and festive activities to create jobs and increase incomes for rural labourers, Vinh said.
