Beginning in early June, the project of upgrading and improving the dock station on Titov island in Halong bay has been invested with over VND47 billion by Halong bay management unit.
Thang Long Machine and Construction Joint Stock Company, the main contractor, is trying its best to overcome the challenges of the ocean environment and finish the project on time to effectively meet the increased demand of tourists. It is deploying over 30 workers and necessary construction machinery, with work going on continuously in 3 shifts. Up to now, 25% of the work has been done.
Located in the middle of the World Natural Heritage Site Halong Bay, some 14 km east of Bai Chay, Titov Island takes its name from Gherman Titov, a WWII hero of the Soviet Union, and takes the shape of a crescent. It welcomes thousands of tourists for relaxing and swimming each day.
The project includes removing the old dock station, installing a new reinforced concrete structure 60m long and 5.5m wide; while upgrading the operation unit, fire protection systems, and electric lighting system on the dock.
The project is expected to be complete in early 2014. After completion, the newly-upgraded dock station will become a 3rd level water transport project, able to serve 15 boats at a time.
