In January 2014, total tourist arrivals to the northern province of Quang Ninh reached an estimated 523,000, a 8 percent rise over a year previous, according to the provincial Department of Planning and Investment.
Of the figure, the province received nearly 296,000 foreign arrivals, up 5 percent, 230,000 tourist arrivals staying overnight, up 12 percent. Travelling arrivals reached nearly 58,000, up 54 percent, of which foreign arrivals were 56.500, up 55 percent. About 180,000 tourist arrivals visited cultural historic relics, down 12 percent, while those arriving to visit Ha Long bay were 210,000, up 15 percent.
Total tourism turnover in the first month of 2014 posted more than VND434 billion, a 29 percent rise compared to the same month last year.
The Quang Ninh Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism is building programmes and plans to welcome the New Year’s Eve 2014 and Ha Long Tourism Festival 2014.
The province is perfecting its overall scheme for Quang Ninh tourism development until 2020, with a vision to 2030, to submit the provincial People’s Committee for approval. In addition, an action programme to realize resolution 07-NQ/TU on May 25, 2013 of the executive board of the provincial Party Committee on developing Quang Ninh tourism during the 2013-2020 period, with a vision to 2030 will be implemented.
