Viet Nam attracts over 2.3 million foreign tourists in first quarter

The number of foreign tourist arrivals to Viet Nam in the first quarter of 2014 reached an estimated 2.32 million, a 29.3 percent rise over a year previous, according to the General Department of Statistics.

In the first three months this year, almost all tourism markets saw rises compared to the same period last year. The sharpest increase went to Hong Kong (China), up by 325.8 percent. Following it were Germany (up 248 percent), Russia (55.2 percent), China (48.9 percent) and Cambodia (33.8 percent).

The number of domestic tourists in the first three months reached 13.7 million arrivals, a year-on-year rise of 6.85 percent, generating a turnover of VND70.2 billion, up 31.2 percent.

The Viet Nam National Administration of Tourism recently launched promotion plans for 2014 to attract more foreign tourists to Viet Nam. Specifically, in 2014, Viet Nam will join nine international tourism fairs in Southeast Asia and the world, such as TTM Plus Thailand, JATA, TOP RESA France and ITP Asia-Singapore.

Furthermore, the domestic tourism sector will organise promotion activities in the RoK, Russia, Taiwan (China) and China, with the aim of welcoming 8 million foreign tourists in 2014.
