Mass Xoe dance opens Muong Lo Culture, Sports and Tourism Week

More than 1,000 Thai actors, actresses and local residents joined a mass Xoe dance at the opening ceremony of the Muong Lo Culture, Sports and Tourism Week on October 16 in Nghia Lo town, Yen Bai province.

The artists performed six folk dances: ‘kham khan moi lau’ (wine offering), ‘don hon’ (stepping up and stepping down), ‘pha xi’ (dividing into four parts), ‘nhom kham’ (throwing scarfs), ‘kham khan moi lau’ (offering wine) and ‘om lom top mu’ (clapping hands while walking in circle).

Visitors to the Week can enjoy a buffalo fighting festival, participate in sporting events, and taste the indigenous dishes of Thai, Muong and Tay ethnic groups at a trade and food fair.

The event was held to strengthen community ties, and foster cultural exchanges between ethnic groups in the province while promoting provincial tourism.
