The Hue Monuments Conservation Centre on March 31 reopened the Duyet Thi Duong Royal Theatre after a temporary closure to upgrade its interior.

The renovations included incorporating a space for displaying and introducing art performance activities at the theatre, one of the oldest in Viet Nam.

Phan Thanh Hai, Director of the centre, said the theatre’s stage had been restored and the interior had been thoroughly overhauled.

Hai pointed especially to the display area of Nha Nhac, a type of the Vietnamese court music, court dance and court classical Vietnamese opera, introducing a number of photos, costumes, musical instruments, masks, and other relevant materials to the public.

Since being recognised as a world intangible heritage by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation, the Nha Nhac Hue royal court music traditionally performed at Duyet Thi Duong has been featured over forty times.

The Duyet Thi Duong theatre was built in 1826 in the Minh Mang Dynasty and served as the Royal Theatre.
